Thank You, Captain: Ludwig Spies and a Season to Remember

Every club has players who leave a mark.Every team has leaders who lift everyone around them. In 2025, MOP 1 had both in one person: Ludwig Spies.

As captain of MOP 1, Ludwig led from the front in every sense — with his bat, his ball, and his presence on and off the field. Under his leadership, MOP 1 delivered an outstanding season, finishing second in the league and earning promotion to the 3rd Klasse for 2026 — a major achievement in the club’s journey.

A True All-Rounder

Ludwig’s numbers tell a powerful story. With the bat, he was one of the most consistent performers of the season, scoring 455 runs at an average of 50.56, including a remarkable 137 not out*. His strike rate of 183.47 showed his ability to change games quickly and decisively.

With the ball, he was just as valuable. Over 13 matches, Ludwig picked up 19 wickets, maintaining a strong average and economy, and delivering key breakthroughs when the team needed them most.

Add to that his sharp work in the field — 13 catches — and it’s clear that Ludwig contributed in every department of the game.

Leadership Beyond the Numbers

But Ludwig’s impact went far beyond statistics. As captain, he brought calm under pressure, belief during tough moments, and unity within the squad. He led by example, supported younger players, and always put the team first. His leadership played a crucial role in building the confidence and consistency that ultimately led to promotion.

A New Challenge Ahead

While we are incredibly proud of what Ludwig achieved with MOP, we also understand his decision to take the next step and play at a higher level with VOC Rotterdam. It’s a move driven by ambition and passion for the game — qualities we have seen from him all season.

Still, that doesn’t make the goodbye any easier.
